TRANEMO STORY

The Tranemo Group today consists of a head office and sales office in Sweden as well as subsidiaries in Norway, Denmark, Finland, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Benelux (covering Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg), Germany, France, Poland, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal. Together we offer one of the strongest sales and service organisations in Europe.

Every year, the Group distributes more than 700,000 high-quality workwear garments to customers in Europe and the rest of the world. Our head office and logistics centre are located in Tranemo, Sweden, and the majority of our production takes place either in our own facilities in Bulgaria or with partner companies across Europe.

A legacy of innovation and growth

In 1934, Tranemo needed a workplace for women and it was decided to build a sewing factory. Three families carried the heavy load of the project, but almost the entire town pitched in and helped make it a reality. Within a few years, this had grown into three companies, one of which was Tranemo Textil AB, where Gustav Kjöllerström became the sole owner.

In 1970, Gustav’s daughter Inga and her husband Håkan Larsson took over the business. At the same time, Gustav's son K-G ran his own sewing factories in Portugal, supplying Tranemo Textil and serving as the production unit for several of the largest workwear brands in the Nordic region. Håkan and Inga visited Bulgaria in 1998, where they decided to purchase the Svea factory. Together with the Gustav factory, 63% of our production of flame-protective garments takes place at these facilities. Today, 89% of our total production takes place within the EU.

Since 2008, Håkan and Inga’s son Max has been CEO of Tranemo, while their daughter Sofie is CFO, marking the emergence of the third generation at Tranemo.

Tranemo - A leader in safety and innovation

Tranemo has a simple vision that no one should have to be seriously injured in an accident where the right workwear could have prevented or reduced it. We strive to make workplaces safer by leading the development of new advanced flame-protective solutions. We also help provide the market with the best advice on how to protect against various risks in the workplace, such as heat, flames, arc flashes, molten metal, chemicals and explosion hazards.

To support this, we have an in-house training programme called the The Safety Academy. It is intended for all our employees, from board members to new recruits. The training courses provide a broad understanding of our customers’ industries, their safety needs and risks, as well as products that are suitable for different scenarios. This is an integral part of Tranemo’s DNA and culture and helps us move closer to our vision and uphold our core values: being innovative, reliable, experts.

We work towards our vision by identifying hidden dangers and helping our customers by adapting our products to their specific niches and needs. Maintaining close contact with our customers and hearing about their challenges is an important part of our work. A major reason for our internal Safety Academy programme is to ensure that everyone within Tranemo has a deep understanding of our customers’ needs, regardless of their role in the company.

To ensure that we offer the highest-quality garments in the industry, we work with some of the most innovative weavers, knitters and fibre suppliers on the market to create our own textile qualities. These textiles are then sent to the factories in Bulgaria and transformed into our flame-protective garments and PPE.

Tranemo works only with inherently flame-protective fabrics – the protection cannot be worn away or washed out of the fabric. Therefore, the protection the fabric offers lasts for the entire lifetime of the garment. Our customers operate in a wide range of industrial sectors, including power and energy, smelters and foundries, welding, rail, mining, explosives industry, petrochemical industry, electric vehicle industry and transport. All our stock garments are fully certified according to the relevant EN standards.

A sustainable future:
Our responsibility

80% of a garment’s environmental impact occurs in the production phase. By making the most sustainable changes and choices possible, we minimise our environmental impact during production. A conscious decision has been made to create PPE with a focus on durability, to ensure that they are easy to repair and to educate our customers and partners in how this is done.

The PPE industry also uses PFAS in many garments, which can have a very negative impact on the environment and our health. However, PFAS offers certain advantages in some high-risk environments that no other material can match. We are working towards zero use of PFAS in our garments and are an active part of the "No to PFAS" movement. We only use PFAS in PPE where no other material can manage the safety risks as effectively.

To hold ourselves accountable and measure our efforts, we produce our own annual sustainability report and participate in the EcoVadis Sustainability Rating.

Towards the future:
Increased safety and sustainability

At the heart of our mission lies a commitment to drive positive change within the flame retardant PPE sector. With a culture characterised by innovation and cutting-edge expertise, we are determined to raise the bar and set new standards for quality and performance.

Through a strategic approach to product development, we continuously explore different avenues and new technologies to improve the efficiency and reliability of our PPE solutions. In addition, our focus on sustainability drives us to explore alternative materials and production methods, ensuring that our products not only offer superior protection but also contribute to a healthier planet. By staying one step ahead and anticipating our customers’ changing needs, we continue to be at the forefront of the industry, giving individuals and organisations the confidence to work safely even in the most challenging environments.
