Sustainable production
European production of flame retardant workwear is a cornerstone of Tranemo's operations, with as much as 90% of our production taking place within Europe. We work closely with selected suppliers to develop sustainable technical textiles and flame retardant workwear that meet the strict requirements we set for functionality, durability and safety. We believe in strongly in the future of European manufacturing and continue to innovate and drive the development of more sustainable workwear.
More sustainable energy use
We work actively to reduce the environmental impact of our own operations by improving our energy efficiency and increasing the share of renewable energy. Renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar and hydropower, are the most sustainable alternatives. In our Swedish operations, we currently use an energy mix consisting of 100% fossil-free energy sources, 49% of which comes from renewable sources.
Increased energy efficiency
We strive to reduce our energy use both in our own operations and in our supply chain. By improving energy efficiency and switching to fossil-free and low-carbon energy solutions, we can gradually reduce our energy consumption.
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve energy efficiency, we have taken several measures:
-
Increase the use of more sustainable energy sources in our own operations
-
Invest in initiatives that reduce our CO₂ emissions
-
Choose suppliers that use more sustainable energy sources
-
Encourage our suppliers to increase their use of renewable energy
Heating of premises and electricity consumptio account for the largest proportion of energy used in our operations.
Transport
Every tonne of carbon dioxide counts
When it comes to reducing our environmental impact, every tonne of carbon dioxide counts. That is why we have carefully mapped our carbon footprint to understand where our emissions occur and to be able to focus our efforts where they make the greatest difference in our transition towards more sustainable operations.
How we measure our greenhouse gas emissions
We calculate the organisation's carbon footprint by collecting data on the carbon dioxide emissions that arise from, among other things, our electricity use, use of packaging materials and transport. The climate footprint is measured in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO₂e). The results help us identify opportunities to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and highlight areas where further improvements can be made.

Ecodesign
The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which entered into force on 18 July 2024, is a central part of the European Commission's work to promote more environmentally sustainable and circular products. The regulation aims to extend product lifespan, improve reusability and energy efficiency, increase the use of recycled materials, improve transparency and introduce requirements relating to the climate impact of products.
Many of the areas highlighted in the EU's regulatory framework have long been integral to the way Tranemo works. Designing durable workwear with a long service life is a fundamental part of our business. When the delegated acts under ESPR are published, Tranemo will continue to adapt its processes to meet the requirements of the new regulation.
Our product team works continuously to improve our existing range and focuses on developing and adapting our protective clothing to meet changing market requirements. We do this rather than replacing entire ranges, which minimises the risk of having stock that can no longer be sold.
This approach is part of our work with Ecodesign, a concept that may be new to some, but has been the foundation of how we work for many years.
In-house sewing department
The sewing department at our head office in Tranemo is an invaluable asset, built on our long standing experience in workwear manufacturing. With a modern machine fleet and skilled sewing technicians, we combine tradition and expertise to ensure the highest quality in every detail. The pattern designers work closely with the sewing technicians, which provides control and flexibility in design and pattern-related details. All Tranemo's samples are produced in our sewing department, and the close cooperation between departments minimises the need for external sample production, saving both resources and transport.
Customer-specific adaptations
Having our own sewing room also makes it possible for us to create customer-specific adaptations. By producing tailored products on site, Tranemo minimises the need for transport and overproduction which are both important aspects of Ecodesign.
