Multilayer system - Cold
HOW TO DRESS FOR COLD WEATHER
Work that requires flame retardant clothing is often carried out outdoors in varying weather conditions. This places high demands on the protective clothing, which needs to protect against moisture, cold and wind while meeting the requirements for flame protection. With the layering principle, you can adapt your clothing to the conditions and level of physical activity. This provides better comfort and freedom of movement and helps you to work safely for longer periods.
this is how the layering method works:
LAYER 1 – BASE LAYER
The innermost layer should ensure that you stay dry and warm from the inside. The inner layer consists of the garments worn closest to your body, such as base layers, underwear and socks. If the clothing does not wick moisture away from the skin, your body will cool down. In the event of an accident, the wrong choice of underwear can cause the fabric to catch fire and melt onto the skin. It is therefore important to prioritise the innermost protection. We recommend choosing inherently flame-retardant base layers in merino wool. Wool base layers are soft and comfortable, with good insulating and moisture-wicking properties. They are also anti-static and do not retain unpleasant odours.
LAYER 2 – MID LAYER
An insulating mid layer should be used to increase comfort during the colder months of the year. This layer creates an insulating air gap between layers 1 and 3, helping to protect against both heat and cold. The ideal mid layer continues to wick moisture away from the body while helping to retain warmth. Wool-based base layers also work optimally as a mid layer.
LAYER 3 – OUTER LAYER
The outer layer’s primary function is to provide protection. For the protective clothing to be worn on a daily basis. it should also have an excellent fit, high comfort, good freedom of movement and practical storage for tools. We recommend inherent flame retardant shell garments. The shell garments have taped seams and are windproof and waterproof according to EN 343. Thanks to their very good breathability, the garments are comfortable and suitable for prolonged use.
FROM THE INSIDE OUT
We recommend that you only use inherent flame-retardant protective clothing against your body, from the inside out. This is to reduce the risk of cotton burning, polyester melting or metal that transfers electricity and heat to the skin. Also remember to protect your entire body, from head to toe.
AIR GAP
The air gaps formed between the different layers have low electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity. These properties provide insulation against cold in winter and provide extra safety in demanding work situations.
