Logistics and distribution

We are firmly committed to helping reduce carbon emissions and are taking action to streamline our logistics and distribution flows. This requires close collaboration throughout the entire value chain – from purchasing to delivery. We apply forecast-driven planning that controls our entire process, from sales and purchasing to distribution and logistics. This helps us avoid surplus stock and contributes to a more environmentally friendly distribution.

Sustainable logistics and distribution flows

To successfully help reduce our total carbon footprint, we are taking action to streamline our logistics and distribution flows.

This requires close collaboration throughout the entire supply chain – from purchasing to delivery. We work with forecast-driven planning through the sales and purchasing phase before the process moves on to logistics. This helps us avoid surplus stock and thus contributes to more sustainable distribution.

Product transport

The transport of our products includes all transport between suppliers in our supply chain, inbound transport from main suppliers to our warehouse, and outbound transport from our warehouse to customers. Our goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transport activities that contribute to climate change.

By choosing the right mode of transport, we can achieve lower emissions. That is why we prioritise sea transport, as it is significantly more climate- and environmentally friendly than road transport. Through careful logistics planning and the use of consolidation opportunities, we can minimise the environmental impact of our products.

Efficient warehousing system

Since the beginning of 2023, Tranemo has been using AutoStore, a robotic solution for storage and order handling. This has enabled us to increase our storage capacity and improve picking and delivery efficiency by 30–50%.

By using sustainable warehouse logistics strategies, we aim to reduce the time and costs required to carry out logistics activities and improve the environmental performance of our logistics systems.

AutoStore - Doris

Since the beginning of 2023, Tranemo has been using AutoStore, which we call Doris, to streamline our warehouse and order management processes. Doris stands for “Deliver Orders, Rapidly, Instantly, and Securely” and has given us many benefits – both for our customers and for our working environment.

One of Doris’s greatest advantages is how the system improves delivery efficiency. Thanks to the automated processes, we have significantly reduced picking errors and incorrect deliveries, while being able to respond more quickly to variations in volumes. This has led to significantly shorter delivery times, which is crucial for our large international customers who require high delivery precision and speed.

Improved working environment

Doris has also significantly improved our working environment. By freeing up around 1,000 square metres of space, we have been able to create a more spacious layout in our handling areas. This has led to better ergonomics, where picking now always takes place at waist height instead of from floor level or above shoulder height, which was often the case before.

In addition, we have reduced the physical strain that previously arose when staff had to walk long distances on hard industrial floors.

Today, our staff work at fixed picking stations where picking and packing are combined, which means they do not have to stand still for long periods. We have also greatly reduced truck traffic in the warehouse, which in turn has reduced the risk of traffic-related accidents.

Faster deliveries

For our customers, Doris means faster deliveries and increased precision, as we are now much better equipped to handle sudden increases in volume. Doris enables us to scale up operations without downtime, which is crucial to meeting our customers’ demands.

Positive environmental impact

Doris has also had a positive environmental impact. By choosing AutoStore instead of expanding the warehouse by 4,000–5,000 square metres, we have avoided a significant environmental burden. This decision has not only led to energy savings – since we do not need to operate or heat a larger building – but has also proved to be a long-term sustainable solution for our business.

With AutoStore, we have been able to streamline processes, reduce our environmental impact and improve both the working environment and the customer experience.
