EN ISO 14116
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING WITH LIMITED FLAME PROTECTION
EN ISO 14116 describes the requirements for materials and garments that must limit flame spread. It covers three classes (index 1–3), where 3 provides the highest level of protection. Protective clothing certified according to the standard must not be used when protection against heat is required.

WHAT DOES THE STANDARD EN ISO 14116 MEAN?
EN ISO 14116 is a standard for materials and protective clothing that must limit flame spread during short-term contact with flames. The purpose is to reduce the risk of the garment igniting and to limit how any flame spreads.
The standard is used mainly for garments that do not cover the whole body, such as T-shirts, high-visibility vests, socks and other accessories.
The protection is divided into three classes (index 1–3), where index 3 provides the highest level of protection. The classification is based on how the material limits flame spread and how much it is affected when exposed to a flame for 10 seconds.
Garments with index 1 must not be worn directly against the skin but must be worn over garments that meet index 2, index 3 or EN ISO 11612.
The standard has no symbol of its own. Therefore, Tranemo uses a flame symbol to show that the garment is flame protected.
If protection against heat exposure is required, garments according to other standards are needed, for example EN ISO 11612.
